Clean water is a right, not a purchase. Yet in and around Puttaparthi many families simply cannot afford safe drinking water month after month.
A reverse-osmosis plant on the Kuteer premises runs continuously, and what it produces is given away. There is no counter, no queue-jumping and no closing time — the service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so that a family that works late is not a family that goes without.
How it works
- RO purification. Water is treated to remove impurities and contaminants, then stored in clean tanks and drawn off at the collection point.
- A card for every family. Each household holds a card entitling it to 20 litres a day. It keeps distribution fair and cuts waste, without anyone having to ask permission.
- Kept clean. Tanks, filters and the collection area are monitored and cleaned on a regular schedule. Water given in charity must still be water you would drink yourself.
More than 1,000 families now depend on it. In the financial year 2025–26 the plant gave out over 84.6 lakh litres.
