The Geetha Homam — the daily offering to the fire at the Kuteer

Daily practice

Where the worship ends and the work begins — nowhere

At the Kuteer the fire ritual and the cooking vessel are held to be the same practice. This page sets out both: the rites performed each day, and the service counted equally as sadhana.

The day, hour by hour

From the first Omkar to the last recitation

Visitors may join any of it. There is nothing to book, nothing to pay, and no introduction needed.

The Kuteer keeps this rhythm every day of the year. Between the meditation at dawn and the Parayanam at night sit the meals, the classes and the camps — all of it counted as the same practice.

  1. 5:00 – 6:00 AM

    Morning meditation and prayers

The day opens with twenty-one repetitions of the Omkar, then meditation, then the daily prayers.

  2. Early morning

    Abhishekam

The ritual bathing of the Salagrama — about fifteen minutes, with the Abhisheka mantras and the Shiva Stotras.

  3. 8:00 AM

    Nitya Narayana Seva — breakfast

Breakfast carried out to the elderly mothers living in the nearby streets.

  4. 9:00 – 9:45 AM

    Havan — Geetha Homam

The offering to the fire, with one chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, the Daivagna Hotra mantras and the Gayatri of various deities. Anyone at all may sit and take part.

If you are visiting Puttaparthi, this is the easiest hour at which to find us.

  5. 9:45 – 10:30 AM

    Bhajans

Singing the glory of the God of all faiths — sung together, every day, without preference of tradition.

  6. 10:30 – 11:00 AM

    Name chanting

“Rama Rama Jaya Raja Rama, Rama Rama Jaya Sita Rama” — chanted as a group.

  7. 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM

    Nitya Narayana Seva — lunch

Lunch packed into carriers and taken out to those in need across Puttaparthi and the villages around it.

  8. 5:00 – 6:00 PM

    Evening meditation

Twenty-one repetitions of the Omkar, and meditation as the day closes.

  9. 6:00 – 8:00 PM

    Parayanam

Recitation of one of the Vishnu Sahasranama, the Lalitha Sahasranama, the Hanuman Chalisa or the Bhagavad Gita.

Any action performed with devotion — respecting all faiths, and transcending caste and religion — is itself a spiritual practice, one that fosters wisdom and lifts the individual soul.
